Legal advice you understand – in your language
Facing criminal proceedings or a divorce in a foreign country is stressful enough. You need a lawyer who explains German law clearly and fights for your interests.
As a Fachanwalt – the German title for a lawyer certified as a specialist by the bar association – I advise and represent clients in criminal law and in family law. The title requires proven theoretical knowledge, extensive practical experience and annual further training.
Before practising as a lawyer in Germany, I served as a judge for three years. I therefore know court proceedings from the inside – and how judges, prosecutors and opposing counsel think.
- Certified specialist in criminal law and in family law
- Master of Laws (LL.M.), Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg

Many people in Nuremberg, Fürth and Erlangen live, study or work in Germany without being fluent in German legal language – international employees, students, expats and binational couples. When the police get in touch, or when a marriage breaks down, it is essential to understand every step and every document.
I explain the German legal system in plain English, take care of all communication with the police, the public prosecutor, the courts and the other side, and make sure that nothing gets lost in translation. Correspondence with German authorities and courts is, of course, conducted in German.

Frequently asked questions
Do you advise in English?
Yes. Dzevdet Fetahi advises and represents clients in English as well as in German, Serbian, Bosnian and Croatian. Court proceedings and correspondence with German authorities are conducted in German.
I have received a police summons – what should I do?
As a suspect (Beschuldigter), you are not obliged to attend a police interview or to make any statement about the allegations. Exercise your right to remain silent and contact a criminal defence lawyer, who will first request access to the case file.
Can I get divorced in Germany if I am not German?
In many cases, yes – for example if you or your spouse habitually reside in Germany. Which law applies to the divorce itself can depend on your situation and on any choice of law. I will check this for you.
What is a Fachanwalt?
A Fachanwalt is a German lawyer certified by the bar association as a specialist in a particular field after proving special theoretical knowledge and extensive practical experience. Annual further training is mandatory.
How much does a lawyer cost in Germany?
Fees are based on the German Lawyers’ Remuneration Act (RVG) or an individual fee agreement. I will inform you transparently about the expected costs in advance. Legal expenses insurance may cover costs; on low incomes, state legal aid may be available.
